Electrician – Master Electrician (Local 955) Posting Number: 4038P Columbia Parks and Recreation is seeking a licensed Master Electrician to support construction, maintenance, and improvement projects throughout the City of Columbia’s parks and recreation facilities. This hands-on role directly supports safe, functional, and well-maintained public spaces used by the community every day. The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, and systems in City buildings and facilities. The Electrician performs highly skilled electrical work, secures required permits, coordinates inspections, and ensures compliance with the National Electrical Code and applicable regulations. Essential duties include performing advanced electrical work as a licensed Master Electrician, reviewing and coordinating electrical plans with engineers, planners, and contractors, and recommending and implementing plan changes as needed. The position researches and secures materials, works with standard and high electrical voltages, installs and tests circuits and lighting systems, troubleshoots electrical problems, applies for permits, coordinates inspections, maintains detailed records, and performs other duties as assigned. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. This position does not have supervisory responsibility. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent. An associate degree or two-year technical degree in electrical technology or a related field is strongly preferred. Three to five years of experience in the electrical trades is required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Required licenses and certifications include a valid Master Electrician License. A Class B Commercial Driver’s License with no air brake restriction is required within six months of hire, along with Department of Transportation medical certification. Successful candidates will have strong knowledge of electrical tools, equipment, materials, and the National Electrical Code. The position requires the ability to read engineered plans, estimate time and materials, operate hand and power tools safely, solve complex problems, work independently or as part of a team, work outdoors in inclement weather, and respond on-call as required. Work is performed primarily outdoors, at construction sites, and in vehicles and shops, with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noise, and hazardous conditions.
