Position Summary

The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures (TMTM) seeks a creative, collaborative, and audience-centered Director of Education & Public Programs to lead the development and implementation of engaging educational experiences for visitors of all ages.

This role shapes how our community connects with the art of miniatures-through school programs, public offerings, and interpretive strategies that are welcoming, relevant, and accessible. The Director of Education & Public Programs will work across departments to ensure that learning is integrated throughout the visitor experience and aligned with the Museum's mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Implementation

• Design, implement, and evaluate a range of educational programs, including school tours, public programs, workshops, camps, and community-based initiatives.
• Develop inclusive, visitor-centered learning experiences that engage diverse audiences.
• Implement evaluation tools to assess program effectiveness and impact.
• Oversee scheduling, logistics, and delivery of education programs.

Volunteer & Docent Program

• Oversee the Museum's docent program, including recruitment, training, and ongoing engagement.
• Foster a welcoming and collaborative environment for volunteers and docents and support volunteers in delivering meaningful educational experiences for visitors.
• In partnership with Curatorial, ensure docents are equipped with the interpretive tools and knowledge needed to engage visitors with the Museum's collection.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

• Build and sustain relationships with schools, educators, and community organizations.
• Expand access through partnerships and programs that reach new and underserved audiences.
• Represent the Museum in community settings and professional networks.

Evaluation & Growth

• Use data and feedback to inform program improvements and strategic planning.
• Contribute to grant proposals and reporting related to educational programming.

Fundraising & Grant Engagement

• Partner with the Executive Director and Development team to support fundraising and donor stewardship efforts that advance the Museum's education and public programs.
• Contribute to the development of grant proposals, including program design, narrative content, and budgets related to educational initiatives.
• Support grant reporting by providing program data, outcomes, and impact stories.

Team Leadership, Staff Management & Operations

• Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship for the Education Department staff, including part-time and/or seasonal educators.
• Oversee hiring, onboarding, and training of education staff, interns, and contracted teaching artists as needed.
• Manage the Education Department budget, including program expenses, supplies, and contracted services.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $55,000-$65,000 commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Education, Museum Studies, Art History, History, or a related field-or equivalent professional experience.
• A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in museum education, public programming, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
• A history of creating engaging, audience-centered educational programs for a range of learners.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams.
• A demonstrated commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and welcoming visitor experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with program evaluation and educational assessment practices.
• Experience working with schools and/or community partners.
• Experience supervising or supporting staff, volunteers, or docents.
• Experience managing grant-funded programs.
